The groundbreaking celebrates a new chapter for Hang Lung as the project represents a major business milestone in the Company’s development, marking its new and significant presence in the central region of mainland China.
The groundbreaking ceremony was hosted by Mr Ronnie C. Chan, Chairman, and Mr Philip N.L. Chen, Managing Director, of Hang Lung Properties Limited, and was attended by Mr Wang Taihui, Secretary of the CPC Qiaokou District Committee of Wuhan; Mr Jing Xinhua, Governor of Qiaokou District of Wuhan Municipal Government; Mr Liu Shibao, Chairman of the Cultural, Commercial and Tourism District of Hanzheng Street of Wuhan Municipality; Mr Wang Jilian, Secretary of Land Resources and Planning Bureau of Wuhan; as well as officials from various governmental bodies.
Mr Chan said, “Wuhan is crucially important to the development of central China, given its strategic location and role as a major transportation hub for the region and a focal point for the nation’s ‘rise of central China’ strategy. Hang Lung Properties is honored to be able to participate in the opportunities presented in this city. Heartland 66, in view of its size and scale, will become the flagship of the Company’s operations in central China. While set to add vibrancy to Wuhan’s business center and create an array of career opportunities, the project will at the same time benefit from the flourishing economic development of the region, heralding a sustainable win-win situation.”
Heartland 66 is perfectly located on Jinghan Avenue in bustling Qiaokou District, the commercial and business heart of Wuhan with convenient light rail and mass railway accessibility, and is close to two renowned commercial zones, namely Wuguang and Zhongshan Avenue. Heartland 66 will provide a total gross floor area of 460,000 square meters (excluding car park areas), and will comprise a world-class shopping mall, a Grade A office tower and serviced apartments. This prime landmark complex is due for completion in phases from 2019, with shopping facilities to come into being first. The estimated all-in investment cost for the whole project stands at RMB13 billion.
Heartland 66 is a showcase of modern architecture and design, a fusion of the East and the West. The shopping mall reflects the concept of the auspicious Ruyi Knot (“如意結”), a good luck talisman from Chinese folklore symbolizing the blessings of peace, happiness and good fortune the entire year round. The special presentation of the Ruyi Knot taking the form of an “infinity loop”, which is synonymous with circles of movement, signifies the dynamic flows of customers within the building by creating a “never-ending” shopping experience.
The shopping mall’s curving geometric design seamlessly connects the areas to the east and west, creating a fluid yet lively commercial space. Together with its other outstanding architectural features, Heartland 66 will undoubtedly become an iconic landmark for Wuhan.
The project aims to attain the “Certification under Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Core and Shell Development – Gold Level” issued by the U.S. Green Building Council.
