Hangzhou has long excelled at blending poetic heritage with modern innovation. Newly opened on April 28, Westlake 66 is a vivid expression of that urban spirit. Located in the heart of the Wulin Central Business District, it marks Hang Lung Properties’ 11th project on the Chinese Mainland.

More than a large-scale retail complex, it is a forward-looking, community-centered urban hub — an embodiment of Hang Lung’s “Pulse of the City” philosophy. Here, commerce, culture, and daily life converge, bringing a tangible vision of tomorrow’s lifestyle into the present.

We are thrilled to celebrate our 66th anniversary alongside the opening of Westlake 66. The project is a testament to Hang Lung’s ‘We Do It Well’ philosophy, demonstrating exceptional design, build, and service quality, and a deep commitment to the Hangzhou and Zhejiang communities. This opening is underpinned by a very strong retail leasing rate, showing the strength of Hangzhou’s retail market, and the broader economy.

The Westlakers Community

As a new landmark in the city, Westlake 66 is dedicated to “Westlakers” — urban individuals who prioritize community connection and aspire to an elevated quality of life.

Dining concept “wow pLeace” recognizes the alignment. Founder Stephen Lee observes that the project’s core commercial location ensures a diverse visitor mix and steady foot traffic, well suited to its all-day dining model.

“The Oasis” — an elevated green promenade with ecological design, complements the brand’s botanical open spaces, creating a holistic “urban resort” dining atmosphere that redefines the future of urban social life.

When the City Becomes a Canvas

One of the defining reasons Westlake 66 unites “Westlakers” is its prime location and cultural legacy. Bordering the UNESCO-listed West Lake and Grand Canal, and linked to Song–Yuan relics and late Qing to early Republican architecture, it draws on Hangzhou’s deep heritage. Its public spaces are conceived not merely as thoroughfares, but as platforms for participation.

In collaboration with the China Academy of Art, Hang Lung launched “My 66 Fashion Walk,” embedding placemaking into the project. Led by Jiang Jun and Liu Yihong from the School of Communication & Design, the installation transforms footsteps into dynamic digital imagery that shifts in real time, inviting visitors — even amid the city’s rapid tempo — to “take your time” and become co-creators.

Further enriching the destination, Westlake 66 partners with leading international art institutions. Los Angeles–based Samuel Albert Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III present their inflatable sculptures “FriendsWithYou,” blending comic language with street-art aesthetics to infuse childlike wonder. A bespoke IP inspired by Hangzhou’s city flower, the osmanthus, has also been created.

French artist Jean Jullien presents “JUJU’s Castle,” a metaphor-rich world where visitors become protagonists, journeying through themed “dungeons” in an immersive exploration that confronts fear and tests personal limits.

Reshaping Commercial Space

As a new city landmark, Westlake 66 spans approximately 390,000 square meters. The development comprises five Grade-A office towers and Zhejiang’s first Mandarin Oriental hotel, connected by nearly 100,000 square meters of retail space.

Education group New Channel was among the first to establish its presence in 2025. Senior Vice President Wu Yong notes that the light-filled lobby design and comprehensive amenities foster a strong sense of belonging among employees. Hang Lung’s design ethos and advanced infrastructure, he adds, enhance the brand’s professionalism and international profile, enabling the team to engage externally with greater confidence and composure — sketching a blueprint for the future of business space.

From green dining tables and artistic expression in public spaces to the professional rhythm of the office tower, three distinct realms converge here. Westlake 66 not only reflects the city’s unique character, but also brings its vision for tomorrow’s living to life as a vibrant urban landscape.
