Hang Lung's Bold Path to Net Zero: A Model for Real Estate

News | Mar 24, 2025

We’re proud to announce that Hang Lung Properties has released a groundbreaking discussion paper, “Our Journey to Net Zero: Our Scenarios and Actions to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions to 2050,” setting a new standard for how real estate companies can formulate decarbonization plans.

The paper, which draws on a decarbonization model with more than 1,000 inputs, discusses scenarios for Hang Lung to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions from 1,000,000 tonnes in 2023 to fewer than 100,000 in 2050. How? Through eight key actions like boosting energy efficiency, expanding renewable energy, and pioneering low carbon materials.

This isn’t just about us—it’s a call to action for the industry. Our paper highlights overlooked emissions, discusses carbon accounting challenges, urges greater transparency, and advocates for standardized benchmarks in construction materials. As Mr. Adriel Chan, our Chair, notes, “The real estate sector must form a long-term vision together.” We’re leading by example, collaborating with suppliers and tenants to drive decarbonization and embracing sustainable innovation.

We invite our peers to join us in this journey, fostering collaboration to reshape the future of real estate.
